The 2015 NSW Combined High Schools athletics carnival was held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre in Homebush. South Grafton High School was represented by a strong team of athletes and achieved some outstanding results. Four students reached finals, Natasha Rudder (6th in Girls 16 years 100m), Erica Tillman (3rd in Girls 15 year’s Triple jump), Nathalie Avery (1st in Girls 12 years 100m and 4th in 200m) and Tylar Barry (Boys16+ AWD 1st in Long Jump, 2nd in 200m and 3rd in 100m). There were also strong performances by Jesse Ross in the Girls 13 years 200m and the Girls 12 years 4×100 relay team of Lilly Harris, Brooke Corbett, Kya Broughton and Nathalie Avery. This is the 5th year in a row that Nathalie Avery has represented the North Coast at NSW state athletic championships. She has been the North Coast Athletic Champion for her age group for the past two years. Last year she also represented North Coast in Cricket and Soccer.
Nathalie continues a family tradition in sport and athletics in the Avery family. Her grandfather, Des, was a champion athlete at school, played Rugby league and won many Gifts on the professional running circuit. Her father, Mark held 100m records at South Grafton High School for over 20 years and played over 200 games for the Grafton Rugby Redman. Nathalie’s older brothers and sisters also represented South Grafton High in Soccer, Netball and Athletics.
