NSW Athletic Championships
NSW Youth and Junior Athletic Championships were held at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. These championships bring together the best youth and junior athletes in NSW as well as visiting athletes from other States.Four students from SGHS competed at the championships achieving some incredible results. Erica Tillman and Nathalie Avery both received gold medals in their respective events; Erica was placed 1st in the U18 Triple Jump with a best jump of 11.44m. She also placed 3rd in the U18 High Jump. Nathalie Avery won the U15 100m defending her title from last year.The other athletes to compete were Megan Tillman and Natasha Rudder who also performed very well throughout the championships. All the girls will now be training hard for the Australian Youth and Junior Championships to be held in Sydney at the end of March. A full list of results is included below.
Erica Tillman: U18 Triple Jump 1st, U18 High Jump 3rd, U18 100m hurdles 5th and U18 Long Jump 5th.
Megan Tillman: U18 Triple Jump 6th, U18 High Jump 6th, U18 Javelin 5th and U18 Long Jump 6th.
Nathalie Avery: U15 100m 1st, U15 200m 10th.
Natasha Rudder: U20 200m 8th.
Australian All Schools Athletics Carnival
Nathalie competed at the Australian All-Schools athletic championships at Canberra on the weekend of 3-4 December 2016. She got a gold medal as a member of the winning NSW Under 14 girls 4 x 100 m relay team. She placed 2nd in her heat of the Under 14 girls 100 m sprint and placed 5th in the final. See gallery here
Dakota Mundine and Chelsea Dwyer will be performing with Bangara Dance Company this year at schools Spectacular in Sydney. Another eight students will also be performing at this amazing event. Ms Wendy Dalton and Mr Tim White attended this year.
NSW All Schools Athletics Results 2016
Great results from our athletes in the All Schools NSW Athletics Championships held at Homebush early October
Nathalie Avery won a silver medal in the 100m with a time of 12:60, after having been the fastest qualifier for the finals. This result has qualified Nathalie to represent NSW, competing at the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships to be held in Canberra from 2nd to 4th of December.
Erica Tillman achieved silver in the Triple Jump and 7th in the High Jump and Long Jump.
Megan Tillman placed 4th in the High Jump and was unfortunately injured attempting 1.65 in this event.
Natasha Rudder qualified for and competed in both the 17 years girls 100m and 200m finals. Well done to the girls for representing our school once again at such a high level.
The South Grafton High School Girls Open Netball team won the coveted Daily Examiner Challenge this year in September. They defeated Grafton High School 36-22.Captain was Karlie Chevalley, while Player of the Series went to Charlotte Sommers and Player of the Final was Isabella DiMattia.
The 2016 North Coast Combined high Schools Athletics Carnival was held in Lismore this year. Outstanding results for SGHS can be read here
NSW CHS held in Homebush, Sydney during term 3 2016 led to some great achievements. Our team of athletes returned with silver medals – Nathalie Avery 13 yrs 100m, Natasha Rudder girls’ 17+ 100m, Megan Tillman girls’ 16 yrs high jump, Erica Tillman 16 yrs triple jump. Our 13 yrs boy’s and the girl’s relay teams, as well as Travis O’Connor were all finalists in their events. All students were excellent ambassadors for SGHS.
Duke of Edinburgh 2016

In 2015 school sport was run during Wednesday periods 3 and 4 for Year 9 and 10. Years 7 and 8 used the PE lessons.
We had 8 students represent the school at State Combined High Schools Athletics Championships in Sydney this 2015.
At the end of Year 12 we enjoy watching students play against the staff in Volleyball and Soccer. You can see images of those gamed from this page
